Modern settlement long after the ancient hillfort

It's strange that the place of ancient Polatsk hillfort is not for tourists, not for visiting. Simple obelisk with the inscription "Гарадзішча" on it, no dates, no history (even any short one) has no big attraction for people to stand, to take photos near it. May be if there were a couple of benches on the high Palata bank then people would come and stay for a while...

I knew the only thing about this place from school – the first settlement. Why exactly here, by whom and how, when it was founded? I'm sure that not every Polatsk citizen knows where exactly this hillfort was situated. Like I didn't too till I was interested to learn. The book by S.Tarasaŭ "Polack. Historyja i tapahrafija" gives the exact information about the hillfort through plans.

So I moved to walk around and make photos of this hill at one snowy day. It was a pleasant and inspiring walk with the thoughts about the old-old past (more than thousand years ago!), about how the landscape suites the settlement in this place, with all feng-shui standards – like the God made this place for the town, about the little attention from locals given to this ancient history...
